Cutting to Feel

When people watch a movie they are ALWAYS watching editing. Whether it's a feature length movie, a documentary, or any other genre, every shot that you are watching was decided by a video editor. Believe it or not, the shots were picked for a reason and the over arching reason is to make you feel. Every joke is firmly based not only on comical writing and timing by the talent but also by the length or lack of length that is chosen by the editor/director. Timing and the shot choice can either cause a scene to be powerful or to fall flat. Back before the rise of technology movie editors would literally cut the emulsion of film with a blade and glue it next to the desired scene. The art is much more obtainable now, but still not everyone knows how to use the tools well.
